Nokia EOS may be company's first quad-core phone

Nokia has had a quiet year thus far, but on the back of financials reported yesterday the Finnish company is looking more and more likely to turn themselves around. While adoption in the United States has slowed as of late, one big new phone may be enough to reverse that trend: The Nokia EOS.

The phone, which is still going by its codename but will likely eventually become the Nokia Lumia 1000, is set to be the first true PureView Lumia phone. The first PureView phone, the Nokia 808, ran the old Symbian operating system. The second PureView phone, the Lumia 920, added optical image stabilisation but negelected to include the full 41 megapixel sensor that made the 808 so powerful. Now, the Nokia EOS looks to combine both of these strengths into a single phone, with a 41 megapixel sensor, optical image stabilisation and variable aperture lens. This should make for the best camera ever found on a smartphone - a title that Nokia is sure to see translated into higher sales.

The phone looks to have strong specifications too, if not quite up to the challenge of the latest Android models. We're expecting a 1280 x 768 Super AMOLED display, and either a dual or quad-core Snapdragon processor. According to MyNokiaBlog both specifications are being tested, but the dual-core is currently favoured due to its lower power consumption. With only a 2,000 mAh battery on board (compared to the 2,600 mAh Galaxy S4 battery), that choice does make sense. Connectivity also looks to be a strong point, with support for FM radio, a micro SD card slot and a micro HDMI port.

The Nokia EOS looks like it could be the superphone that Nokia have been waiting for. What do you make of the news? Would you pick up such a phone over an iPhone or Android phone? Let us know in the comments below. Thanks for reading and have a good day!
