Nokia Lumia 520 & 720

Nokia Lumia 520 and 720
This week we learned of two new Nokia Windows Phone devices, the Lumia 520 and the Lumia 720. The 520 will reportedly include a glove-compatible 4-inch screen, a dual-core 1 GHz CPU, 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB of storage. Unlike the Lumia 620, this phone won't have a front-facing camera. The Lumia 720 will have a 4.3-inch display, with the same internal specifications. On the camera front, expect a six megapixel rear facing camera and 2 megapixels on the front. Both phones will run Windows Phone 8, as you'd expect.

Nokia looks to be in a cycle of reinvention - we've heard rumours of three new code named Nokia devices over the past few weeks, including the 'EOS' PureView-equipped Windows Phone, the aluminium constructed 'Catwalk' and the AT&T exclusive 'Laser'. This week we can add two more phones to the mix: The Nokia Lumia 520 and the Nokia Lumia 720.

The Nokia Lumia 520 should sit below the highly rated Lumia 620 budget Windows Phone 8 handset, offering slightly worse specifications in exchange for a lower price. The 520 will come with a 4-inch screen that's extra sensitive (like the Lumia 920's), half a gigabyte of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage capable of being augmented via a micro SD card slot. The camera on the rear would be a 5 megapixel option, but there's no front-facer.

The Lumia 720 will be a bit better than the 620, offering a 4.3-inch Clear Black display, but the same dual-core CPU, 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. The chief advantage will be an improved front facing camera - 2 megapixels versus the inadequate VGA front-facer in the case of the Lumia 620.

If the phones are priced competitively, they could continue to shore up Nokia's leading position in the Windows Phone marketplace.
