Google adds concert listings to music search results

Google has announced that it will now display concert listings when users search for their favourite bands. 

As of yesterday (February 23), results pages for musical acts show dates at nearby venues and links to sites offering tickets for sale. 

Google product manager Kavi Goel said of the update in a blog post: "To me, music is best heard live, so it's always exciting to find out that a band I love is coming to town. 

"If they aren't touring near you, the new results for concerts won't appear, but if the band happens to be coming to your town within the next few months, you can see the concert dates listed under the band's official website." 

Although the service has only now been confirmed, some Google users claim to have seen concert information appear on results pages since January. 

Listings are aggregated mostly from major ticket sites, though website owners can add "rich snippets" mark-up in order to have their concert dates included. 

The feature is currently only available in the English language, but will expand into other countries in the future.
