Acer Aspire V5 laptop with AMD Temash chip leaked

Image
The Consumer Electronics Show seems like a world away, but in truth it was only four months ago. In all that time, we haven't seen an official device intended for a retail release that used AMD 's new Temash APU that they announced at the show. This week, we may have gotten the first of many - the Acer Aspire V5 . The specific model is the V5-122P-0643 (as you might guess, there are a lot of different Aspire V5s so proper nomenclature is important). According to the Acer product page, the computer comes with the AMD A6-1450 APU . That includes a quad-core 1 GHz processor (which can 'turbo' boost 1.4 GHz) and a Radeon HD 8280 GPU. The APU has an unusually low power requirement - less than 5W - that allows for passive cooling in tablets. That'd be equally useful in a laptop. I actually reviewed the current generation Aspire V5 and found it to be pretty lacking, with one of the biggest issues to be the terrible battery life, with the machine's 2500 mAh...

New Car Apps that Could Save Your Life

Image
Navigation systems in vehicles are an essential tool for drivers. Long gone are the days of a paper map, which is hard to fold and can become a hazard if trying to read and drive at the same time. Over the years, many drivers have become unimpressed by the on-board navigational systems and opt to use their  smartphone apps  for accuracy and clarity. Smartphone usage while driving can be a dangerous mix because it may require as much attention as a paper map. What many drivers need and want are apps that are installed into their vehicle’s navigational system, as fumbling around with a smartphone, while driving, can cause a car accident. Fortunately, for many luxury car owners, there are car apps already on-board for easier navigation . For the rest of us, we might have to wait awhile. Mercedes Benz’s mbrace According to the official Mercedes Benz website, “ mbrace brings the internet to your dashboard…it connects you to your car from your smartphone...

How can we protect data security in Windows 7?

Image
Data security is the eternal theme for Windows users. Windows 7 involves in many topics, including how to recover Windows 7 password safely, the selection of Windows 7 applications, tips to secure Internet surfing, etc. For most of Windows 7 users, system security starts with setting a Windows password and ends at installing an antivirus program. This may indeed deter the casual hackers or phishing sites. However, creating a layered defense system can be the only way to stop, or at least hinder, attempts of illegally accessing your Windows 7 computers. Windows 7 user account and login password  In Windows 7, there are two kinds of accounts, administrator account and standard account. Administrator account is not necessary to complete access for most of users' daily tasks. Since standard user accounts lack the ability to alter or delete system files, try to create an administrator account as well as a standard account. In this case, even if a standard user account has ...

Nokia EOS may be company's first quad-core phone

Image
Nokia has had a quiet year thus far, but on the back of financials reported yesterday the Finnish company is looking more and more likely to turn themselves around. While adoption in the United States has slowed as of late, one big new phone may be enough to reverse that trend: The Nokia EOS . The phone, which is still going by its codename but will likely eventually become the Nokia Lumia 1000, is set to be the first true PureView Lumia phone . The first PureView phone, the Nokia 808, ran the old Symbian operating system. The second PureView phone, the Lumia 920, added optical image stabilisation but negelected to include the full 41 megapixel sensor that made the 808 so powerful. Now, the Nokia EOS looks to combine both of these strengths into a single phone, with a 41 megapixel sensor, optical image stabilisation and variable aperture lens. This should make for the best camera ever found on a smartphone - a title that Nokia is sure to see translated into higher sales. T...

Top 5 Nokia Lumia 920 accessories

Image
Good morning everyone! Today we're going to be looking at five of the best accessories available for Nokia's top of the line Windows Phone, the Lumia 920 . These accessories will extend the life and times of your phone, allowing you to get the most out of it. Let's get right into the selections. 5. Nokia Lumia 920 Case-Compatible Charging Dock This charging dock offers a few advantages over new-fangled wireless charging docks: it is cheaper and it works even when a case is in use. Considering the relatively large size of the Lumia 920, this is no small feat. The charging dock is in portrait orientation, marking it for use in writing messages and browsing the web instead of playing games or watching videos. 4. Case-Mate Tough Case for Nokia Lumia 920 The Lumia 920 is the thickest and heaviest of the current range of flagship phones across manufacturers and operating systems. That makes it durable to scratches, but also ensures that it hits the ground hard....

Nokia Lumia 950 Prototype Appears

Image
This weeks sees the release of the Nokia Lumia 520 and Lumia 720, but it also has shown us what could be the next top of the line Lumia: the Nokia Lumia 950 . The folks over at WPCentral have posted pictures of the purported handset, which looks like it could be the ultimate PureView phone we've been waiting for. The first thing you'll notice about the phone is that it's much boxier than we've seen from Lumia in the past. We've heard that Nokia were updating their design language to better differentiate themselves and stay modern, and it looks like this may be one avenue they're exploring. The screen has a resolution of 1280 x 768 (the current maximum supported on Windows Phone 8) and will reportedly be a Super AMOLED display based on the PureMotion HD panel inside the current top dog Lumia 920. Beneath the screen there's an odd squarish Windows button, flanked with the standard search and buttons to the right and left, respectively. Inside th...
